ADAC Luftrettung Partners with Volocopter on Next Generation eVTOL for Emergency Medical Services

ADAC Luftrettung is a charitable air rescue service operating over 50 rescue helicopters from 37 bases. The motto of this organization is “Competing against time and life”. In emergency medical services, getting patients to treatment quickly can be the difference between life and death. At this week’s Paris Air Show, ADAC Air Force Flight First, you confirm the purchase of two VoloCity aircraft. The organization plans to purchase another 150 aircraft. Volocopter eVTOL.

VoloCity eVTOL offers the speed and flexibility of a helicopter, with the benefits of zero emissions, quieter operation and less environmental disruption.

“The two VoloCity aircraft will enter research operations in late 2024 to provide ADAC Luftrettung Emergency Medical Services (EMS) as auxiliary aircraft in Germany. Additional eVTOLs will be considered for use in future rescue missions,” the Volocopter press release said.

ADAC Luftrettung and Volocopter have been collaborating since 2018 to study the use of eVTOL in EMS and rescue operations. (read Click here for the results) “In this study, we conducted computer simulations of aeromedical missions in two regions of Germany and demonstrated that the deployment of eVTOL in a life-saving situation would have significant tactical implications from a technical, sustainability and operational perspective. It has been theoretically proven to add benefits,” the release states. .

Volocopter plans to obtain VoloCity’s EASA type approval in 2024. Once certified, his two purchased aircraft will be manned by pilots and paramedics and will enter service to supplement (not replace) rescue helicopters. At least he needs two years of testing before the eVTOL is fully integrated into the ADAC Air Force Rescue Corps.

“From the beginning, we were convinced that these aircraft could shape and improve the rescue service of the future,” explained Frederik Bruder, CEO of ADAC Luftrettung., “The increased range and operating speed of the next-generation eVTOL, along with the significantly increased payload, will also enable the benefits of emergency medical treatment, fulfilling the statutory mandate of further developing air rescue services. You can,” he emphasized. pioneering innovation. “

Volocopter CEO Dirk Hoke said: “There is no better way to start a Volocopter eVTOL business in Germany than to save lives. ADAC Luftrettung has highly trained pilots and believes that together they can create a better future. Europe’s leading rescue service, we have proven that emergency rescue use cases work in theory and are now focused on delivery and implementation to start EMS operations in Germany in 2024. doing.”
