If you’re looking for an entry-level drone that costs less than $100 and has some advanced features, keep reading this review. Because the Snaptain SP600 could be exactly the drone you’re looking for.
In a rapidly growing world of consumers dronethere are many companies that have developed some amazing budget-friendly drones, many of which we have reviewed on this site.
One of these drone companies is Snaptain. Snaptain is a relatively new company on the drone manufacturing scene, but they have released some impressive drones. In this review, the latest drone, the Snaptain, Snapten SP600, It’s becoming another popular drone for beginners.
Snaptain SP600 Review
Drone enthusiasts will be the first to notice that the Snaptain SP600 is very similar to the DJI Phantom series of drones, especially the Phantom 4. It’s no coincidence that DJI is the leader in consumer drones. Not only is their drone technically superior to any other on the market, but its design is also very attractive, for very good reasons.
This is why many smaller drone companies have used them as a model for designing their own drones. The Snaptain SP600 is well-designed, made of durable plastic, and extremely lightweight, making it hard to imagine a cheap drone that is prone to failure.
The all-black color scheme and colorful LED lights underneath each rotor make it look very futuristic. These LED lights are also suitable for twilight flights. The drone also comes with propeller guards to minimize possible damage if you crash the drone.
The package comes with some landing gear to help protect the camera during normal or emergency landings.
The drone requires one 1300 mAh battery. These are modern modular batteries that can hold a charge longer. This gives you longer flight times, with the Snaptain SP600 giving you up to about 15 minutes of flight time on a single battery charge.
A 15 minute flight time for a sub $100 drone is pretty good, probably better than any other drone in this price range. But it’s still not enough to fully enjoy the drone, luckily the drone package comes with extra batteries, so he comes with two batteries for the Snaptain SP600.
Another feature I really like about the Snaptain SP600 is the remote controller that looks like what modern drone controllers look like. Designed for the week, it has rounded edges and is very comfortable in the hand.
All of the control buttons that access the various features of the drone are easily accessible and have icons on the side so you know what each button does.
There is another smartphone attachment that clips onto the top of the controller and has a video transmission range of about 60 meters in good weather conditions. Without the FPV function, the transmission range is slightly longer, about 80 meters.
The controller requires 4*1.5v AA batteries which are not included in the package. If you buy a drone, don’t forget to buy it.
You can also fly your drone with just your smartphone using the Snaptain Era app for both Android and iOS.
Snaptain SP600 camera
The biggest feature of the drone is that it comes with a camera. I love drones with cameras. Because a drone with a camera can see the world from a completely different perspective, and the Snaptain SP600 comes with a really nice HD camera.
With this camera, you can capture stunning aerial photos and video footage at 720p resolution. The camera angle can be manually adjusted up and down to some degree, but this was a little disappointing as it would have been more convenient if it could be adjusted with the remote control. Don’t expect all the premium features for a reasonable price.
The drone doesn’t have advanced image and video stabilization features, but it does have a 6-axis gyroscope that helps it maintain a stable altitude and minimize distortion that can occur in images and video footage.
Overall, the camera quality is very good, especially for its current price.
Other features
There are many other features that make flying this drone fun.
VR headset β The drone is compatible with VR headsets for a more immersive flying experience.
Voice and Gesture Control β Control your drone with just your voice or hand movements. An impressive feature that will amaze your family and friends.
one button return β Comes with a one-button return function to return the drone to where it took off to minimize the risk of losing the drone.
headless mode β Fly your drone regardless of its orientation. This is especially useful when the drone is far away and it is difficult to distinguish between front and back. Beginners should always fly using headless mode until they feel confident in their flying skills.
3 speed modes β There are speed modes for all levels of drone flyers, from beginners to experienced drone pilots.
low battery indication β When the battery charge is low, the remote will beep to alert you so you can take the drone home before the battery runs out completely and you lose the drone.
3D flip β The drone rotates 360Β° with the push of a button. This is another great feature to show off to your friends and family.
flight performance
The drone flies very well and has excellent hovering capabilities despite having no GPS system at all. Very easy to fly, but only a problem when flying in windy conditions. It struggles to maintain position, especially if you want to hover. I am an experienced drone pilot.
There is also one intelligent flight mode called Orbital Flight. In this mode, just draw a path in the app and the drone will automatically fly along that path and return home. A really nice feature, especially for this cheap drone.
final thoughts
This is a decent drone and a lot of fun to fly. It has some issues, but there are better alternatives that you can check out by clicking the button below.
