drone manufacturers Velos Rotors Co., Ltd. announced the completion of a $2 million seed round by marathon venture capitalThe investment will allow Velos to expand its manufacturing capacity to meet rapidly growing demand for its pioneering flying machines.
Drone adoption has been somewhat hampered by several shortcomings in the widely used multicopter design. The thrust an aircraft produces is proportional to the surface of the propeller, but multicopters use multiple small propellers, each covering a small surface area, and consume a lot of energy.
Velos has developed a new UAV that utilizes a helicopter design. This twin-engine model offers industry-leading redundancy, reduced noise and vibration, and increased efficiency and performance.
The company’s fully electric sub-55-pound UAV can reliably carry a 13-pound payload for 60 minutes at 35 MPH in nearly all weather conditions (IP65), enabling a variety of new possible applications.
Velos offers end-to-end solutions purpose-built for a variety of use cases across logistics, medical supplies, testing and government applications, including transportation of human organs, blood samples, border security, search and rescue, and large-scale survey missions. doing. The company has already delivered dozens of drone helicopters around the world, accumulating thousands of flight hours.
“We built from the ground up what has proven to be the best UAV on the market,” said Velos founder and CTO Aris Kolokythas. “Our drones and helicopters are pushing aviation forward and we are excited to bring them into the hands of more enterprise customers around the world.”
Velos CEO and US Navy veteran Michael Seal said: “The investment from Marathon Venture Capital will allow us to bring our product line to market faster and have a meaningful impact on the industries we serve.”
“Multicopters are for hobbyists. The market needs an industrial-grade UAV and Velos was the first to offer one.” “Working with Aris, Michael and the team to bring meaningful innovation to market Plus, if you’re interested in aviation and want to make an impact in your work, Velos is the place for you.”
