The new patent aims to deploy an unmanned aerial vehicle to assist drivers who may be stranded with a dead battery and lack jump cables or access to another vehicle.Ford’s vehicle has the ability to send a jump start request along with the vehicle’s current position, which is received by one or more drones. When the drone moves to the location, it opens the hood, forms a connection with the vehicle’s battery, and provides boost to allow the driver to continue the journey.
This application of drone technology could prove particularly beneficial for drivers traveling in more rural locations with less contact with other vehicles.
