As tactical communications are advanced by the fluctuating needs of ground operators, tethered drones offer significant benefits where flexibility and maneuverability are essential. With highly effective ground units that require increased mobility, tethered drones enable the establishment and expansion of secure mobile networks with rapid deployment and long flight times.
Orion HL builds on the original Orion platform, adopted by militaries and security forces of over 30 countries for ISR missions, while maintaining levels of automation, ruggedization, and safety architecture. Easy to transport and deploy, the Orion HL can withstand a payload of 4 kg at 90 meters and 5 kg at 50 meters for up to 50 hours of flight.
“We put the Orion 2 tethered UAV system, provided by Ellisters Norwegian partner Northcomm, through several tests during last year’s experiments to test its limits. , the system has proven to be a flexible and reliable solution capable of handling difficult operational environments and conditions over the Norwegian Arctic,” said Experiment Manager “Tor”, Norwegian Army Research Institute for Combined Weapons Warfare. said. “The introduction of the Heavy Lift version also provides a very useful tool for lifting communications equipment to create temporary communications coverage in difficult operational areas.”
The addition of Elistair’s new Payload Development Kit enables partners to fully integrate payloads and sensors to enhance the platform’s capabilities for end users. A beta testing program with selected partners has enabled Radionor’s integration of his CORDIS Array II, 5G relays and SIGINT payloads.
The first deliveries are expected by the end of May 2023.
