Sydney-based drone startup aerologics announced a partnership with cleanup australia Help communities clean up hidden pockets of trash in waterways and nature reserves. This weekend’s cleanup will focus on pilots capturing aerial footage along the Northern Beaches coastline. The collected images and videos are used to geo-locate the litter and highlight hotspots on the map to direct the attention of the cleanup group.
Aerologix founder and CEO Tom Caska said: “Using innovative technology for positive change is one of our mottos and we can’t think of a better application to do it. is to use new technologies in new ways to help the environment and clean the planet.
“I live in Northern Beaches and am passionate about keeping our community clean. I am excited to start a partnership in my own backyard and help bring the community together for a common purpose,” Casca continued.
Australia generates 2.5 million tonnes of plastic waste annually, equivalent to approximately 100 kg per person. Only 13% of that plastic is recovered and 84% goes to landfills. As countries continue to grapple with their growing waste problem, it becomes increasingly important to support new and innovative solutions. Aerial technology enables the retrieval of garbage pockets that are difficult to find on foot.
Clean Up Australia, the country’s largest community-based environmental event, has been running for 33 years. Over 20 million Australians have donated their time to the event since it was founded by Ian Kiernan on 21st January 1990.
“This is a really exciting partnership because we know how big a difference technology can make to aerial surveillance, especially in a vast country like Australia,” added Caska.
Cleanup Australia CEO Jenny Geddes said: otherwise remain invisible.
