DELAIR releases Europe’s first C6 class drone
DRONELIFE Staff Writer Ian M. Crosby
French drone manufacturer Delea has released the C6 class UX11 drone. This enables his BVLOS operations across Europe without the need for specific approval within the framework of the EASA European Standard Scenario STS-02. The UX11 is the first C6 class drone available in Europe.
Ten years ago DELAIR released the DT18. This is the first drone in the world to obtain airworthiness certification for his BVLOS flights within civil airspace (his DGAC S4 scenario in France). His C6 designation for the UX11 drone repositions DELAIR as a pioneer in his BVLOS flight and European regulations.
Hand-launchable in a backpack, the 1.4 kg UX11 can land almost anywhere thanks to its patented BTOL (Bird like Take-Off and Landing) technology. With a deployment time of less than 5 minutes, the UX11 is intuitive and reliable and has already logged hundreds of thousands of kilometers of his BVLOS around the world. Its C6 marking signifies increased autonomy, with an endurance of 1 hour and 20 minutes, allowing for long range missions. A current DELAIR customer has the option of upgrading his UX11 by retrofitting, adapting it to new requirements and fitting the C6 marking.
Commercial drones operating in Europe are subject to EASA regulations, which were enacted in January 2021, defining permitted uses based on the class of drone (classes C0 to C6). UX11 operators will be able to fly in a standard European scenario (referred to as STS-02) without an existing operating license. The UX11 is ideal for linear inspection, safety and topography operations.
“This C6 marking makes DELAIR a benchmark for European BVLOS drone manufacturers. This mark enables us to address the entire European market. Both benefit from the experience of ten years of successful operations in France.” “Drones are much more parsimonious in terms of energy consumption and carbon footprint than traditional means such as helicopters. We are proud to provide our customers and their operators with reliable and robust drones.
