This will be the first passenger transport in Japan by an autonomous eVTOL aircraft. Approved by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (“MLIT”) of Japan, EH216 flew with two passengers and no pilot Along the Tanoura coast in Oita City.
“Last July, the EH216 completed Japan’s first point-to-point test flight in Oita, and received an overwhelming response. I am very happy,” said Oita Mayor Kiichiro Sato. “We hope today’s passenger-carrying flight tests will accelerate autonomous aircraft, take another step toward practical use cases, and bring an industry full of opportunities into full swing.”
This year, EHang and its partner, the Okayama Kurashiki Mizushima Aerospace Industry Cluster Study Group (“MASC”) returned to Oita for the first autonomous passenger flight in Japan with EH216. It is expected that this demonstration will raise awareness and interest in UAM in Japan and promote the development of the UAM industry.
“The EH216 is a leader in the eVTOL field with extensive experience in passenger transport. ,” said MASC President Hiroshi Kirino. “Flight testing of the EH216 will take place in more cities, and he looks forward to the EH216 being deployed and applied in Japan.”
“Over the past two years, the EH216 has made several demonstration and test flights in Japan, achieving milestone after milestone. All these milestones go hand in hand with the support and trust of Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, local government departments, and partners. We are working with our partners to promote safe, autonomous and environmentally friendly UAM solutions in Japan, benefiting more people around the world with our passenger-grade AAV.”
