Under the Defense Innovation Unit’s (DIU) Blue UAS certification program, the Green UAS is for customers who do not need to immediately operate a Department of Defense (DoD) authority. The green UAS also provides an easier path to the blue UAS 2.0 clear list.
Green UAS is the next step in drone security certification to accommodate the growing number of customers using commercial drones. Customers include federal agencies, local law enforcement, first responders and state transportation agencies. Industrial enterprise users such as energy and utilities, telecommunications, manufacturing, food and agriculture, logistics, and mapping/survey companies.
Blue UAS has established a path for the Department of Defense to purchase compliant commercial drone technology, but does not have the funding or authority to meet the growing demand for non-DoD customers.
“Strengthening the domestic drone industry is critical in providing options for government agencies to obtain the trusted UAS they need to carry out their missions. said David Michelson, DIU Program Manager at . We look forward to reviewing our accreditation.”
Green UAS is the first product in AUVSI’s Trusted Cyber Program, launched last August with the backing of leading cybersecurity firm Fortress Information Security. Working with a network of cybersecurity companies, AUVSI is committed to product and device security, corporate cyber hygiene, and the unsolicited transition from green to blue drones, remote operations, and connectivity.
The Green UAS launch builds on a collaboration between AUVSI and DIU to advance a commercial cyber methodology to establish common requirements. AUVSI’s relationships with commercial drone vendors and DIUs allow the Trusted Cyber Program to meet the growing demand for vetted drones and standardize cybersecurity requirements.
“AUVSI’s Green UAS is a solution to existing cybersecurity and supply chain verification challenges that will benefit the UAS community, end users and federal government partners,” said Michael Robbins, AUVSI Chief Advocacy Officer. I’m here. “This is fully in line with our mission to drive demand for a safe and secure UAS market and provide a more competitive marketplace for all.”
