I want to practice flying my drone, but I don’t have enough PC to operate the simulator. Don’t worry, you can improve your flying skills on your Android device as well.
But not all simulators are worth your while. So which simulator is best for Android?
The best simulators for Android include FPV Freerider, Quadcopter FX Simulator, RC Drone Flight Simulator, FPV SkyDive, and Multirotor SIM 2.
Continue reading to learn more about these simulators for Android and how they work. I’ve also included some screenshots of the simulator gameplay.
Many Android simulators are designed like games, but some have precise controls and physics that mimic real drone flight.
Below are the best ones:
FPV Freerider is one of the best drone simulators for Android that you can use to practice FPV flying.
Their Google Play store page says it’s difficult to control, but aims to challenge you to master the real skills and muscle memory you’ll need when flying a real FPV drone .
To provide an even more natural experience, this simulator is designed to work with physical controllers.
I played with touchscreen controls and a controller, but I recommend using a controller. The touchscreen controls seemed jerky and barely made for a smooth flight.
FPV Freerider Android Simulator is a paid app, but you can get the free demo version to test it. The demo version only allows you to fly in the desert scene.
It seems that the demo version is intentionally limited in functionality so that you can purchase the paid version which includes the FPV Freerider full version ($2) and the FPV Freerider Recharged ($5).
By paying, you can unlock an island, a meadow, a playground, a parking lot, and two towers.
If you want access to more scenery, FPV Freerider Recharged comes with Track Templates, Desert Ruins, H-Tower, Bando One, The Tall Bando, and Level Editor.
What I love most about this simulator is that you can calibrate controllers, adjust rates, adjust views, and adjust trim levels. All of this you need to know when flying her real FPV drone.
You can also choose whether or not to use self-leveling. This will help you learn to level the drone yourself.
Below is a screenshot of the scene and what the controls look like.
If you’re looking for a fully immersive experience that includes goggles, Quadcopter FX Android Simulator is worth checking out.
Although it is currently not possible to connect DJI goggles or other FPV goggles, the simulator is designed to work with Google VR headsets and can also be controlled using physical controllers. These two settings will make you forget you’re operating from an Android device.
Similar to the FPV Freerider Simulator, this simulator is designed to teach an introduction to FPV flight. By default, the drone will maintain altitude after takeoff, but you can make the flight more difficult as you progress.
It’s a free simulator, but it gives you access to scenes like deserts, old factories, oceans, and paradise islands, plus you have two drones to choose from.
You can also customize features such as control sensitivity, tilt angle, normal, sport, 3D and acro mode switching options.
In the free version, you just practice basic moves by going through loops, finding quad pads and landing on them.
But I was surprised to find that there is even a wind setting that allows you to adjust the wind speed and direction and add gusts. Also, when it crashes, it will tell you why it crashed and what part of the drone was damaged.
To access more features such as Return to Home and other scenes, you need the Pro version for less than $5.
Overall, it’s a fun simulator to practice on the go.
RC Drone Flight Simulator has the simplicity of a video game, but with near-realistic physics that mimic a real drone.
After downloading the app, you can go directly to the drone selection screen and be flying in seconds.
The simulator lacks fancy features like using a VR headset, using physical controllers, or customizing controls, but that doesn’t mean it’s not fun.
You can fly various types of drones in various scenes such as offices, supermarkets, and warehouses.
Each scene has strategically placed coins to test your drone flying skills while collecting these coins. Then use these coins to purchase other drones and scenes available in the simulator.
If it crashes, it will put you back in the first place. The drone also has a battery, so you should always be careful when collecting coins.
The more coins you earn before your battery runs out, the higher your score will help keep the simulator interesting.
If you’re looking for a drone video game with real physics, give City Drone Flight Simulator a try.
This sim lets you fly in cities, beaches, and many other scenes. It’s like a video game because it has levels. Each level has a difficulty level and different scenes, but there isn’t much room for customization.
You can also choose from 5 or more drones in the simulator, each with different characteristics.
At first, this simulator feels very sensitive and takes some getting used to. As the levels progress, it eventually gets easier and more fun.
Built by the same people who brought you Quadcopter FX Simulator and 3D Creatives, Drone Racing FX Simulator also gives you the best drone flying experience you can have on your Android device.
Not only can you play freestyle alone, but you can also use multiplayer where you can play against 4 or more other drone pilots.
If you’re indoors with friends and don’t know how to spend your time, this is an activity you can join for under $5.
The simulator also allows you to customize controls, create tracks, select screen controller modes, attach physical controllers, and view gameplay through VR goggles.
I’ve played ORQA’s FPV SkyDive simulator on PC and was very happy to find there’s an Android version as well. They say the game is still in development, but the version available is playable and has all the features you’re looking for in an Android drone simulator.
Like the PC version, you can connect a controller or use a touchscreen controller.
When it comes to FPV simulators, FPV SkyDive is one of the most realistic.
Crash and flip over and over until you get the hang of it. If the controls seem too sensitive, you can adjust the rate in the calibration section.
There are currently only 3 scenes available in the simulator. Racing Track, Construction Zone and Red Valley.
If you’ve never used a drone or a controller before, you’ll love the training section, which covers basic drone movements and how they can be combined to achieve more complex movements.
This is another simulator where you can practice multiplayer FPV flying. Race against other quadcopters in the simulator instead of having your other friends join the game.
Everything else is designed to mimic real drone racing. The simulator will let you know when you crash. Coins and bonuses earned when you win or while playing help you improve and repair your drone.
There is also a parts shop where you can buy frames, motors, GPS modules, batteries, gimbals and many other accessories.
Practicing drone flying doesn’t necessarily have to be a serious business. If you get tired of using controls, check out video games like Drone Shadow Strike.
This is for those who have always wondered what it would be like to fly the US military’s Global Hawk drone.
You won’t learn how to control it, but at least you can blow up anything you see from the air. Mastering drone control is the ultimate goal, so try to get back to it as soon as possible.
Conclusion
And you have it. If you want to get really good at flying your drone, you have to practice every chance you get. Android Drone Simulator is a good way to do that.
Controls and physics are designed to mimic real drone flight, allowing you to develop muscle memory.
I’ve also seen some that let you connect a physical drone controller to a VR headset.
