HAMR’s multi-rotor configuration and distributed electric propulsion system give the aircraft outstanding flight endurance. Additionally, HAMR can accommodate multiple simultaneous payloads. “The aircraft can be optimized for a wide range of defense applications and mission profiles, including tactical ISR, perimeter security, search and rescue and medical supply delivery missions,” the company said in a statement.
AAC CEO Paul Allen said: “Our HIM HAMR UAV’s high performance and efficient propulsion system, robust aerodynamic airframe, ease of use and field serviceability make it ideal for demanding military operations in the harshest environments.”
HAMR’s distributed electric propulsion system includes electronic fuel injection and computer control to drive onboard sensors, six independent brushless DC electric motors, and an integrated generator producing up to 4000W to power backup batteries. It incorporates a dual-piston engine.
HAMR has a maximum payload capacity of 12 lbs and has dual payload bays. This means that a UAS can carry multiple sensors or devices. This includes various optimized or infrared cameras, LiDAR systems, EO, IR or communication systems. Alternatively, it can carry additional fuel for longer flight endurance.
Designed for military use, HAMR is highly portable and can be launched quickly without ground support infrastructure. It can be disassembled and easily carried in one case. Importantly, HAMR is designed to optimize uptime. Line Replaceable Units (LRUs) allow minimally trained personnel to service aircraft in the field.
