Yesterday, the leader in eVTOL aircraft Archer Aviation unveiled Midnight, a pilot and four-seat eVTOL aircraft, at the company’s open house event in Palo Alto, California. Midnight builds on Archer’s Maker eVTOL aircraft, uniquely validating his 12-Tilt-6 configuration and key enabling technologies.
With a payload expected to exceed 1,000 pounds, Midnight can accommodate four passengers in addition to the pilot. All-electric, zero-emission aircraft are safer thanks to high redundancy and simplified propulsion systems. From its 2,000-foot operating range, the noise it makes reaches the ground at about 45 A-weighted decibels, making it nearly 1,000 times quieter than her helicopter. The aircraft is designed for approximately 20 miles of continuous flight, with a 10 minute recharge time between flights. Archer plans to have Midnight certified by his FAA in late 2024 and deploy it as part of his UAM network, which is scheduled to begin in 2025.
“From day one, Archer’s strategy has always been to find the most efficient path to commercialize eVTOL aircraft,” said Adam Goldstein, Archer founder and CEO. “We believe our strategy and the team’s ability to execute it have allowed us to establish a leadership position in the market. That is why we are confident that we will become the company of
Archer’s Midnight design philosophy prioritizes a blend of high function and high emotion, with the goal of evoking a feeling in passengers similar to what was felt during the golden age of aviation in the 1950s, and the company has similarly entered a new era. appears to lead the way to of vertical flight.
Archer CFO Mark Mesler said:
Archer completed Midnight’s preliminary design review this past August. It covered all aspects of aircraft specifications and manufacturing requirements, allowing the company to determine that the design was suitable for type certification and commercialization.
Archer has also seen major developments in the manufacturer’s flight-test program, with plans to conduct a full transition flight in the coming weeks, just 12 months after its first hover flight. Maker’s success further validates Archer’s unique flight physics for his 12-ramp 6-configuration, as well as other key enabling technologies that are also utilized in Midnight. Archer has collected key data from his Maker flight test program that he leveraged during Midnight’s development and certification path.
