At Korea’s major GIS and mapping shows, Smart Geo Expo: new software, new drone options.
Drones and mapping applications are truly global and DRONELIFE is visiting shows on three continents this fall to find new solutions from every corner of the world. On the floor of this week’s Smart GEO Expo, DRONELIFE met with South Korean software and services companies. 4S mapper.
Drone surveying is often faster, safer and better than traditional surveying methods. For road and highway infrastructure surveys, drone-based mapping can provide important insights for urban planning, maintenance, and more. But in a populous urban area like Seoul, the roads are in use 24/7, making it almost impossible to get an image of a road without cars.
4S Mapper has many applications. Exhibited at SmartGeo is CfSM, or car-free surface mapping. According to CEO Stephano Lee, 4S Mapper allows users to get a raw image of the road. The software uses AI-powered algorithms to remove unwanted elements such as cars, motorcycles, and manholes. This gives users a better overview of road conditions and makes the map more useful as a tool for ordering inspections and repairs.
4S Mapper is drone and sensor agnostic, but the booth showcased a cost-effective fixed-wing mapping drone. made in Latvia, Fixer 007 Fixed-wing drones offer up to 60 minutes of flight endurance depending on payload. The plugin payload option and short setup time (less than 2 minutes according to Fixar) make it a good commercial option for any mapping, photography or surveillance application.
